It doesn’t seem possible, but December has emerged on the calendar and that means Christmas is right around the corner.
At this time, our thoughts continue to be with those in the Fraser Valley and other areas of the province who have been so heavily impacted by extreme weather in recent weeks. Because this is the time for giving, readers who have the ability, may wish to consider lending a helping hand to those who continue to experience a very challenging period and personal hardship.
Through a partnership between the New Car Dealers Association of BC (NCDA) and the Recreational Dealers Association of BC (RVDA), the Wheaton Family and the First Canadian Financial Group are matching all donations to the Canadian Red Cross BC Flood and Extreme Weather Appeal up to the first $500,000. Contributions can be made at www.redcross.ca/bcfloods/ncda.
With respect to auto-related gift-giving, given what has transpired in recent weeks, a roadside survival kit may be top of mind – particularly for those who may be travelling during the holiday period. In the unlikely event of a worst-case scenario, a kit may prove invaluable for you and your family – with emergency survival items including food, water, a warm blanket, and a first aid kit.
Other gift options may include a car care kit. Check your local hardware store to see what kind of pre-made packages are available or put together a gift basket yourself. Packages can contain car wash fluid, glass cleaner, wax, polish, sealant, detailer spray, tire shine, and everything in between. Many dealerships also offer auto “spa packages” for interior and exterior detailing services – so check dealership websites for any special promotions or gift cards. Or perhaps for the music lover, the most meaningful gift may be an upgraded audio system inside their vehicle.
For those who are on the practical side, gift cards can pay for a maintenance or detailing appointment at the person’s favourite new car dealer or some sessions at the neighbourhood car wash. They’re also a smart gift for those who are tricky to please, as the person can pick out their own vehicle accessories or add-ons at their favourite auto parts store or website. Your local new car dealer has many accessory options available that they can install for your gift recipient as well.
We all know the dangers of distracted driving and the consequences that come with it. Cell phone car mounts and USB phone chargers make great stocking stuffers for people of all ages as do car chargers, including wireless charging systems.
As Christmas approaches, many of us will scratch our heads, considering the perfect gift for that perfect someone. However, if the past two years of the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s the true value that should be placed, not on that shiny new object, but on the importance of family and friendships that we may sometimes take for granted.
